The problem of overcrowding in the UK prison system is reaching crisis point, partly due to exceptionally high levels of re-offending.
A major factor in individuals not returning to prison after completing a sentence is their ability to secure employment. Whilst new skills can be learnt in prison – skills that can be extremely useful to a variety of employers, obtaining a job with a ‘prison record’ can be difficult due to negative public perception of ex offenders along with a lack of familiarity with the current job market.
OP's offender resettlement programme is a practical, bespoke course designed to enhance the prospect of individuals securing employment on completion of a custodial sentence. All aspects of searching for work are covered including:-
The course is held on prison premises and designed to fit in with daily prison routine. Initially targeted at individuals with less than six months left to complete of their sentence the course is run on a classroom basis over two sessions with ‘homework’ for all participants to complete between sessions. The general mood is upbeat, informal and positive with delegate participation and interaction encouraged throughout.
On leaving prison, individuals who have completed the program receive ongoing mentoring and support up to the point that they secure employment and beyond if required.
